We find that technology-mediated support of intergenerational immigrant cultural exchange must be designed for this trialogic process, consider the role of expressing values as a form of meta-commentary on a story, and shift the perspective on existing "barriers" to consider how they might foster further engagement. We use the Magic Thing to move the standard dialogic grandparent-grandchild relationship into a trialogic one, creating space for comfortable social connection and storytelling through the shared creation of the design.

We explore how to support the specific needs of immigrant families through Magic Thing participatory design workshops with grandchildren and grandparents together in order to reveal the social interactions that would support their cultural exchange. Past works have presented technology-mediated supports for grandparent-grandchild social interactions in non-immigrant families and have found that these interventions do foster stronger connections in both physically close and distant multigenerational families. The resulting intergenerational drift places grandparents at high risk of sustained social isolation from their families. However, existing barriers make these seemingly routine interactions challenging for families to navigate.

Cultural exchange activities, like shared storytelling, can foster these crucial connections. Language and cultural barriers critically threaten the social relationships between grandparents and grandchildren in immigrant families. "Enabling for design" in the context of a PD project is another focus found in the literature encompassing two major goals: digital capacity building in participants so that they can become knowledgeable co-designers in the longer run, but also support for "identity building" so that marginalized groups are enabled to start have a voice in articulating their needs and desires. Approaches suggested include organizing workshops as "tea parties" or with social elements that provide levels of comfort and informality concepts that foster empowerment and learning and skill transfer in the course of a PD project concepts of dividing groups to adapt to the heterogeneity of the participants' digital skills as well as developing frameworks for sustainable outcomes from joint decision-making processes. Some PD studies take this differentiation into account with the development of concepts and methods that help tailor PD activities to the specific needs of older adults. I hope this helps and as any Help Desk / Support guy would say, restart the server and call me back if the error persist.

I know this answer doesn't explain the reason for the issue, but there are things in a windows server that sometimes can't be explained :). At that point, my last resort was to restart the CMS server, as for some reason, the transport service was stuck and unable to get the status updates from the deployer and restarting the service itself wasn't enough.Īfter restarting the CMS server (where the transport service runs), publishing started to work just fine again. I triple-checked everything and all was properly setup.Īfter trying the common problem solvers, such as restarting the transport service (and the Publisher) as well as the deployers, the transactions still remained as "Deploying". In my case, I found some logs complaining about a key marked for deletion trying to be updated (some DB problem). Check the transport logs (and Event Viewer inthe CMS Server).Check the deployer logs (which should be fine as it is doing its job correctly). What I did to troubleshoot the issue was: However, the transport service won't pickup such instruction file hence the publishing transaction remained as "Deploying".

The deployer was deploying properly (checked the broker and things were correctly published) and leaving the instruction for the transport service to update the state of the transaction. It was working fine and all of a sudden it left the publishing transactions in "Deploying" state. I had a similar issue with one of my deployers.
